A Woman's Steps

I cannot keep up with men. I try to be as quick as them or carry as much weight, but I cannot. I get frustrated with myself because it feels like I'm falling behind. One of my steps is two of the men's steps. They forget I'm behind them, and once I start getting the hang of things and keep pace with them, with their large steps, they start to run. They expect me to keep up, but I cannot, and they laugh. Then, when I get upset with this unfair system, I'm told I'm too emotional or on my period.

This is the world we live in, right? Where men can decide what happens to OUR bodies. Other people can decide who you want to be or deny who you truly are. How many times are we going to have to fight for our rights, fight just to be heard on anything happening to us? Clearly not loud enough because a convicted felon and alleged rapist can still become president. So never say "it will ruin his reputation" to us anymore; it's sickening.

No, I will not hate you for who you voted for, but do not get mad when I say I voted for my rights instead of cheaper taxes or cheaper gas. I will say this one thing...

I will keep stepping forward. I will take off running. One day, I will catch up to the men. I know I am slower, but I will never give up. I will always keep going, no matter how far back I am, no matter how many times I get pushed down.

To the women, trans people, and people of color, we have gotten through the first 4 years; we can do it again. Never stop fighting and never stop living, please.
